 Dive Shades' Ionian Sunglasses

What is it? One of three styles Dive Shades recently added to its traditional series in response to a trend toward larger frames. The Ionian as well as the Oceana and the St. Thomas styles include a 0.75-mm SSR (super scratch-resistant) lens. They are also lightweight and come in a variety of colors. Two "special edition" styles are now available as well. The Dominica and Trinidad offer the trendier large frames and incorporate Dive Shades' 1.1-mm SSR lens.
Benefits to your diving: Large-frame styles seem to be "in" right now and Dive Shades is simply responding to market forces. But these sunglasses hold more than just a trendy look. The SSR technology used by Dive Shades means the sunglasses are double-coated for impressive scratch resistance. If you doff and don your sunglasses as often as most divers, scratch resistance is a quality you want. The new polymer is so strong that it approaches the scratch resistance previously found only in polycarbonate lenses. Scubapro's Bella BC

What is it? A buoyancy compensator designed for female divers. The Bella incorporates Scubapro features, but what the manufacturer considers especially important is that the Bella was developed around a brand-new and Scubapro-exclusive wrap-around air bladder. Unlike traditional bladders that extend out and away from the torso when inflated, Bella's new full-wrap bladder retains its 360-degree cradlelike shape even when fully inflated. The result is a buoyancy compensator that "hugs" the diver throughout the full range of inflation, ensuring optimum comfort and control in all diving environments. Other features include contoured hip indents; gel-cushioned shoulders for enhanced topside comfort when gearing up for dives; and Scubapro's patented quick-release integrated weight system, with ergonomically sized weight release clips. Bella is available in black/blue and black/gray with a choice of Balanced Power Inflator or AIR2 Alternate Inflator Regulator.
Benefits to your diving: Continuing the trend of more female-friendly equipment, the Bella BC includes features that Scubapro incorporates into all its BCs but with a fit for a woman. For more information or to reach the nearest Scubapro dealer, phone (619) 402-1023.

TUSA's Sub 1000T Watch

What is it? A limited-edition dive watch that is offered in conjunction with a recently formed partmership involving TUSA and Swiss watchmaker DOXA. Sporting a vivid Caribbean blue dial and a highly visible orange minute hand, the TUSA Sub 1000T holds true to DOXA's tradition while incorporating current Swiss technologies. It features a high-grade 25-jewel Swiss ETA automatic movement with 42-hour power reserve, 1,000-meter water resistance, super luminova dial and hands for low-light readability, a 3-mm-thick anti-reflective sapphire crystal and unidirectional NDL bezel. In addition, each watch is individually numbered and accompanied by a signed certificate of authenticity.
Benefits to your diving: If you're looking for a quality watch from an experienced watchmaker, DOXA isn't a bad place to start. The Swiss company has a reputation for producing some of the best dive-specific timepieces around, ever since it first introduced the Sub 300T in 1967. Atomic Aquatics' SV1 and SV2 snorkels

What is it? A "streamlined" snorkel billed as an alternative to bulkier models. The "SV" stands for "scupper valve," which is designed to make the snorkel self-draining and deliver effortless clearing. This patent-pending design includes one-way valves that channel the water away from the mouthpiece, providing more comfort for the diver. The SV1 features a conical flared top for better breathing. The SV2 takes that one step further. Each SV2 is designed with a semi-dry top with horizontal vents to defuse splashed water before it enters the barrel, making it a good option when in rougher, choppier waters. Both designs feature a quick-disconnect snorkel keeper that allows 30-degree rotation. Each snorkel also features Atomic Aquatics' revolutionary dial silicone mouthpiece.
Benefits to your diving: Against the tenants of good training, some divers are abandoning the snorkel because they consider them too cumbersome and bulky. Atomic Aquatics' SV1 and SV2 snorkels try to take the fuss out diving with a snorkel by offering a streamlined alternative. For more information, or contact the nearest Atomic Aquatics dealer, call (714) 375-1433.
