Aqua Lung's Legend LUX
What is it? The newest member of Aqua Lung's family of Legend regulators, which were first introduced 10 years ago. Besides its distinctive "rose gold" look, the Legend LUX features the Master Breathing System (MBS), designed as a simple way to adjust the breathing performance. The MBS controls two functions at once: the direction of air, which alters the venturi effect, and the opening effort. The first stage comes with an Auto-Closure Device (ACD), which keeps corrosive water out of the first-stage inlet by automatically closing as the Legend is removed from the cylinder valve. This prevents internal lubrication from washing away. The pneumatically balanced second stage results in smooth, easy breathing, and its Comfo-bite mouthpiece eliminates jaw fatigue.
Benefits to your diving: The eye-catching look of the newest Legend regulator is complemented by the track record of performance of its predecessors. Armor Bags' API-3R-USA
What is it? A U.S.-made large rolling backpack made of 1050D ballistic nylon. The API-3R-USA is the same as Armor's API-3-USA bag but with rugged off-road wheels. Lots of corner protection is included as well. The bag comes in a traditional dive-style design with saltwater-resistant noncorrosive components and zippers. No rivets are included. All components are attached with stainless steel hardware. A protective cover is available as an accessory. The bag is 29 inches (74 cm) high, 20 inches (51 cm) wide and 12 inches (30 cm) deep. The standing height of the roller version is 30 inches (76 cm).
Benefits to your diving: Extreme or varied environments call for transporting your dive gear in strong and durable bags that will protect your investment and your back. Even better: This latest product from Armor Bags is made in the United States. Whites Manufacturing's Thermal Fusion Undergarment
What is it? A diving undergarment with a dual-layer design called "ThermalCORE," a patent-pending technology. Inspired by the Whites Fusion dry suit, the first layer of the Thermal Fusion contains a loose cut core constructed of Polartec Classic 200 fleece, fits a wide size range, and is designed to not restrict movement. The second, outer layer is a Polartec Power Stretch Pro compression skin, which streamlines the inner core to the diver's body, provides a custom fit, and allows maximum range of motion.
Benefits to your diving: Warmth, flexibility and comfort are characteristics divers like in any diving conditions, and the Thermal Fusion Undergarment does not disappoint. For more information about the undergarment and ThermalCORE technology, or to contact the nearest Whites Manufacturing dealer, call 250-652-8554 or visit www.whitesdiving.com.
Jetsam Technologies' KISS GEM
What is it? A new rebreather diving system billed as "one of the lightest, smallest, most inexpensive rebreathers on the market" and considered perfect for the recreational or traveling diver. GEM is an acronym for "gas extending mechanism." The patent-pending GEM is built to extend the life of the air inside the tank by three times the normal amount. It uses a nitrox mixture, and with fewer parts, small size and lightweight is simpler to operate than a fully closed rebreather, the manufacturer says. The GEM provides all the benefits of rebreather diving, including warm, moist air and no noisy rush of bubbles to scare away fish.
Benefits to your diving: Rebreather systems are becoming less bulky, lighter and simpler to use — all attributes that should put a smile on the face of any recreational diver wanting to explore the advantages of using a rebreather. For more details about the KISS GEM or to contact the nearest Jetsam Technologies dealer, call 604-469-9176 or email info@jetsam.ca.
SeaLife's DC1400
What is it? A camera with five "piano keys" that allows users to take either high-definition 720-pixel video or 14-megapixel high-resolution images. Depth-tested to 200 feet (61 m), the DC1400's control keys are designed to eliminate the confusing button cluster of a traditional camera to provide simple one-handed operation in any environment, even with gloves on.
The DC1400 offers six underwater modes, and the DC1400's 1-2-3 graphic on-screen guide takes the guesswork out of setting up the camera. It measures 3.7 by 5.3 by 2.8 inches (9.4 by 13.4 by 7.1 cm), and it weighs less than 18 ounces (504 grams). Its rechargeable lithium battery will power the camera for about one hour of continuous HD video — perfect for a two-tank dive — or for in excess of 200 photographs. The camera system includes 20 MB of built-in memory, and more memory can be added. The camera's external polycarbonate body is rubber-armored for easy handling and shock protection in all conditions.
Benefits to your diving: A camera that can deliver quality still images and high-definition video with simple operation is worth a closer look. There's a reason SeaLife calls the DC1400 its flagship camera. For more information about the DC1400 or to contact the nearest SeaLife dealer, call 800-257-7742 or visit www.sealife-cameras.com.
